Growing up in the Bay Area I have been lucky enough to live in an area with some of the greatest sports teams to ever play baseball or football. Though the area has struggled some lately with a lot of their sports looking at the past I would still consider the Bay Area as the strongest sports community across the United States.
As I have said in a past blog the A’s may have been the greatest baseball teams ever to play the game in the 1970’s. Sports illustrated voted them the team of the century in 2000. With their 7 World Series titles (tied for second most all time behind the Yankees) it is easy to see their dominance in the sport. Adding in the San Francisco Giant recent World Series win the bay area has given California more title than any other state.
In football there is no comparison between Bay Area football teams and other states. The San Francisco 49ers is tied for most Super Bowl titles all time. Winning 3 titles alone in the 80’s the 49ers can be easily seen as the greatest team in the 80’s if not all time. Adding in the Oakland Raiders dominance in the 70’s with their 3 Super Bowl appearances it is easy to see the Bay Area’s dominance in the sport of football.
